When We Wuz Kids

witch3.gifThe other night I was busy handing out chocolate mini-bars and Pringle packets to the neighborhood kids who were passing by our house on their annual Halloween trick or treat ritual. My daughter was dressed as Snow White and went about the neighborhood with her mom. It was sure a fun night for the kids who had a whale of a time going around for treats with their Halloween costumes πŸ™‚

I’m reminded of the best time in our lives when life was supremely blissful, when we wuz kids. Life was a huge playpen for me then, when all that mattered was play, play play and the overly caring arms of our family were always there to care and nurture us ever so lovingly. My grandparents doted on me a lot. When I was at their house on weekends, my lola was extremely protective of me that she won’t hesitate to request the emcee of the weekly amateur singing contest or the announcer of the local boxing fest, which ever was happening in our town, to broadcast over the high powered public loudspeakers for me to go home when I miss my 8 pm curfew πŸ™‚ Boy, was it ever so embarrassing ! At one point, in my little league game I was at bat and with one out trying to score home a teammate at 3rd base. The baseball announcer suddenly blurted – if this boy gets a hit, he will get a prize of 5 bucks, courtesy of his lola ! That was the time when 5 bucks was good money but man I was totally flattened by the embarrassment that I struck out 😦 But hey, that was my lola and she knew everyone in our town and despite my vehement complaints of her strange actions, I deeply loved and respected her πŸ™‚

My attraction with girls started when I was in grade 2. This was this cute classmate of mine who I was infatuated with big time. One afternoon there was a fire in the neighborhood and everyone was scampering out to watch it and I took the opportunity to kiss her on the cheeks πŸ™‚ Unfortunately our teacher caught me and reprimanded me accordingly and reported me to my mother who was a teacher at the same school. It turned out my mom didn’t mind because the girl’s mom who was also a co-teacher thought we were a cool pair and they were in fact quite giddy about us two pairing together in the school folk dances πŸ™‚

When I was in grade 5, I made a habit of biking around our neighborhood after supper. One time I was stopped by two older grade 6 girls who wanted to borrow my bike. I became friends with one of them and we became a little closer than normal. She was pretty and older than me so I was a little bit intimidated. After some time she told me we were sweethearts and even suggested a theme song for us. I was like – whoa? Okay. I mean she called all the shots and poor me had nothing much to do but nod πŸ™‚ We gave each other a good night buzz on the cheek before we went home. We used to bike at the quiet area around the church almost every night, with her at the back hugging my waist. One night there was a car trailing us and when it passed, I heard my mother who as in the back seat of the car, shouting at me to go home ! I was dead scared, caught in the act and I just folded and chickened out of the relationship. I will miss the buzz on my cheek but fear overwhelmed me this time πŸ™‚

I love the memories of my childhood , the time when we were so carefree and totally innocent. With all the trials and tribulations we face as we journey through life, I sometimes wish I was a child again πŸ™‚

Paris Hilton reportedly barged into a Toronto porn store fuming mad at the store window display which featured her infamous sex video which proliferated the internet many years ago. She is in town doing a film and accidentally bumped upon the store while she was strolling along a downtown shopping area. She reportedly confronted the store and demanded the pictures to be removed. The manager came back later to tell the store people to keep quiet of the incident. But here’s one irritating news. U.S. tabloids are now talking to the store offering money as much as $50,000 for the rights to the story. Is this small incident worth this much? Paris should also know that her infamous video had leaked to the net and there’s no way for her to control the damage. It is sad but the Toronto incident is just an indication that enterprising people in the porn industry can exploit her fame to promote their business in whatever way they want. How can these celebrities be so careless and fail to safeguard their private videos? They should also be wary of people around them, especially blackmail artists who would fleece them with money anytime they have the opportunity 😦

  1. I want to wear that princess dress too ! Your kiddie love story is so cute BW. I wish I had one like that too hahaha πŸ™‚

  2. Hahaha, maaga ka palang lumandi, bro. I mean, grade 2?? At that grade I wasn’t even aware about the opposite sex! πŸ˜€

Your encounters with girls at such an early age shows that you’re quite a ladies man, hehe.

And your story about your doting grandma is hilarious, but I bet you miss her… πŸ˜€

  3. Irrealis – you want to be a kid again, I know πŸ™‚ I’m sure you had your share of kiddie love story too – maybe you should tell us hehe πŸ™‚

  4. Sngl – maybe my hormones were a little more active but I’m quite sure I wasn’t thinking of sex at that time hehe πŸ™‚

Quite the contrary I was a geek with women more so that my father was a disciplinarian and I was scared of him. This grade 6 girl was desired by much older boys when she grew older and she changed boyfriends every now and then. She was quite attractive, more so that she was a very good singer. She was on a different league when I was in high school and we kind of parted ways and never spoke to each other again. She settled down and happily married and has 4 or 5 kids now I believe. My sister met her at the city many years ago and she asked about me. It’s been a long time now and if I ever meet her again, I’ll sure give her a buzz on the cheek hehe πŸ™‚

My lola was a character – God Bless her. I’ve never seen her cook anything in my whole life- the maids did all the cooking. She did the pamalengke and played mahjong – that’s about the only 2 things she did LOL πŸ™‚ When she rode the public transport, the jeepney drivers know they can’t go more than 60kph else they would get an earful from her hehe πŸ™‚

  5. Early bloomer ka pala ha. πŸ™‚ Such sweet and cute memories of your childhood.

Your daughter looks so cute in the Snow White outfit. How was the weather there on Halloween? Here in Winnipeg, kids always have to wear their costumes over their jackets. It’s always cold.

  6. Grade 2 at may crush na? Mga lalaki talaga *LoL!* πŸ˜€ at mabilis pa, nanghalik agad! ha ha ha!

‘hope ur having a good weekend!

  7. These are very keen memories. I could reprise many childhood memories as vividly as you did on this post and
somehow I can say, I like doing it—it’s kidna soothes the soul, and lighten the feeling. It might perhaps be truthful on what many often says,”
A man who do not look back from where he comes from, would not have an idea where he or sehe is heading to”.

  8. Niceheart – early bloomer ba hehe πŸ™‚

We are having a rather mild fall last Halloween week. Daytime temps were going as high as 18 degC and night time about 5 deg C. My daughter was wearing a jacket when she was trick or treating. When she came home after almost an hour, she wore her costume minus the jacket inside the house and also handed out treats to the kids who came to door πŸ™‚

  9. Thess – it was more of a natural , feeling good reaction when at that time I didn’t have any knowledge of how babies are made hehehe πŸ™‚

Hope you have a nice weekend too πŸ™‚

  10. Major Tom – our childhood days are important IMHO because it sets the path of who we would like to be. My kiddie days were very memorable but when I got to high school, I had a big time clash with my father who was a rigid disciplinarian. My high school days was almost devoid of girls and I couldn’t wait to get out of the house to go to college so I could get out of the restrictive environment my father subjected me to. In the end, I may have benefited from his discipline but my thinking at that time was to prove him wrong from his no confidence vote on me regarding my attitude. And I did prove him wrong coz I did well by myself.

  11. lol…I thought I would never read this in your blog. but here it is! sos, tomato sos, chili sos – grade 2 nag kissing ka na? That’s a cute love story you have there. i laugh at your lola’s way of reminding you to go home. i was tasked to find my older brother to remind him to go home for lunch, and dinner because i know his favourite hang-out and that’s the basketball court. 😦

    hmmm…what did Paris Hilton expect?

  12. Ipanema – this post is sort of my tribute to my joy of being a kid and that included my my hyper-active but innocent hormones haha πŸ™‚ It subsided though when I became older LOL πŸ™‚

It is amazing how people can be so careless of their initimate videos. I watched on TV lately about a couple who bought a house and discovered the initimate video tapes of the old owners in one of the closets ! It’s crazy – do people care about their privacy anymore ? 😦

  13. hahaha…you sound like somebody I know Big Bro πŸ™‚ yep…childhood days are indeed fun. Your entry reminds me of my own childhood sweetheart…but then again summer love ends with summer hehe

  14. Hahaha… your memories are like the sitcom The Wonder Years. πŸ™‚ It really is wonderful to be young and carefree and loved by mothers and grandmothers. πŸ™‚

  15. Verns – our kiddie days are very memorable indeed. I could write a few more posts about them but I wouldn’t embarrass myself further hehe πŸ™‚

  16. Toe – I love that Wonder Years sitcom. Whatever happened to the star of that show, Fred Savage – did he ever grow up ? hahaha πŸ™‚

Mothers and grandmothers, how silly can they be sometimes πŸ™‚ I know a couple here who are so over-protective with their only son. The first time their son rode the public bus, they followed it with their car until he reached his destination LOL πŸ™‚

  17. Your snow white certainly looks adorable. (miski super liit ng pix)
Aww…your childhood love story is so cute. Weren’t we all scared with our parents? They alway pointed out…studies! studies! studies!.

But certainly, to be a child again…such bliss!

  18. Leah – my daughter wants to be Princess Fiona ( SHREK) next year and my wife’s task is to find out where she can buy them πŸ™‚

Yes, our parents were so restrictive weren’t they? We were all enslaved by books and homeworks 😦 I guess my challenge as a parent is not to be like my parents hehe.. well, if I suffered, I need to give my daughter a little break, but not too much πŸ™‚

  19. Instead of fighting these porn stores, Paris Hilton should have followed Pamela Anderson and boyfriend Tommy Lee who authorized their stolen tape to be published provided they get a percentage of the profits.

  20. Anonymous – some people would totally give up and say, what the heck, if you guys are making money out of me, you better give me some of it and I’ll not kill myself over spilled milk. Paris Hilton may not need the money but unfortunately she can’t do much to control the damage any longer. It is tragic. 😦
