Thoughts on the New Year

With the onset of the New Year comes our compulsion to assess our performance for this current year , a cross-examination of our successes and failures and an introspection into the whys and the wherefores in areas where we fell short of our expectations. This isn’t the time to be bitter and castigate every soul that we felt stood in our way and may have contributed to our frustrations. I believe this is the time to focus on what we need to do in the forthcoming year in order to avoid the debacles and setbacks we experienced this year. This is not to say that we can control destiny but at best we can only focus on ourselves and endeavor to change what we think need changing and let go of the things we can’t.

Therefore we talk about New Year’s resolutions to focus on ourselves and vow to rid of bad habits and change things for the better next year. Some people take this time to contemplate on career plans or changes. I have long accepted that I have no future in show business and even with the availability of YouTube which is free, I have no compulsion whatsoever to showcase my artistic talents. I know mine borders on the limited or even void hehe , so I won’t even dare 😉 But there’s no shortage of brave souls 🙂 Just an aside – isn’t YouTube just frigging great? I mean, what would cyberspace be like without YouTube? 😎

In this part of the world Christmas is always celebrated with family and New Year’s with friends. New Year always comes with a bang , mostly with pots and pans 😆 and not with the bang we experience in Pinas where driving home 30 minutes before midnight gives you a taste of what it would be like be in a Humvee driving through a war zone, with the sound of explosions beating up your ear drums 😯

As usual I will be partying with friends during the New Year countdown. I just have to make sure my designated driver doesn’t booze up, else we will be camping at our friend’s backyard 😆 So to all you planning to have a blast this New Year’s take it slow and easy – don’t drink and drive ! For those of you who missed Santa this year, no worries – just hope he will come for you next year

Cheers and Happy New Year to all !! HO HO HO HO ! (click link here and wait for it to load )

  1. Muy bien!!!!!!!!!!! Feliz Navidad y Prospero Ano Nuevo!

  2. I agree, because of YouTube, a lot of unknown but talented performers were discovered. Just last month, a Pinoy rocker by the name of Arnel Pineda was signed up to be the next lead vocal for the US rock group, Journey, filling the shoes of the long-missing Steve Perry. He was accidentally discovered by one of the band’s member while he was sifting through YouTube.

And just recently, another local talent, a 15 year-old Pinay, had the time of her life when she was flown to the US with her Mom to guest perform on the Ellen Degeneres Show. And guess what, she was also discovered on YouTube by one of Ms. Degenres’ staff.

    Now how cool is that?

As for the New Year Pyrotechnics, we’re expecting more casualties as the countdown to 2008 begins. That said, serves those injured right for playing with firecrackers while intoxicated. 😀

  3. Oh and before I forget, Happy New Year, bro! 😀

  4. Have a great, prosperous and joyful New Year to you and yours!!!

Over here, it’s still family, though young ones always have their own happenings. And as new school year starts on the 2nd of January, we have to get enough sleep except those who plan to call in sick on the first working day of the year! How bad to start ey? 🙂

    Anyway, HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! 🙂

My Wish for You in 2008

debts. May the pockets of your jeans become a magnet of $100 bills. May
love stick to your face like Vaseline and may laughter assault your lips!

  15. i smell another YouTube sensation waiting to be discovered. LOL! happy new year, bw!

  16. Happy New Year to you! It was nice to see snow yesterday. Although it came a week late, we still enjoyed toboganning in the hills where we live. My daughter said “it is totally awesome!

I tried singing my version of “I will always love you” in karaoke last New Year’s eve and my family teased me about posting it on You Tube. I thought, I’ll give way to other wannabees like Charice instead of taking the limelight away from them…lol

  17. Happy new year BW. Yes you tube has changed the internet a lot. Putting the “you” in the “tube” hehe. So cmon use it. You might be discovered as well like that Filipina Girl who Ellen has to fly to US from the Phil just to guess on her show.

  18. My new year’s resolution: never to have another one this year. Hehe.

    Happy 2008!

  19. “With the onset of the New Year comes our compulsion to assess our performance for this current year, a cross-examination of our successes and failures and an introspection into the whys and the wherefores in areas where we fell short of our expectations.”

    – I do my so-called “self-assessment” before my birthday and “fiscal year” as a writer, which is every October.
