Temporarily Yours

aphrodite_shoes1Now that we are at the onset of a recessionary environment,  the business news networks have grabbed a big slice of my nightly TV viewing hours. Lately I’ve been burning the midnight oil watching CNBC and BNN to catch up with ongoing developments in the world economy, wondering if I will still have a job after the holiday season. Last week I chanced upon CNCB’s one hour special called Dirty Money thinking that it had to do with money laundering or some sinister modus operandi involving the corrupt wheeler dealers of Wall Street and crooks in the government but I was wrong. It had to do with money earned from plying the oldest profession – prostitution at its most sophisticated, high end level.

Many years ago, I remember watching a TV show about a former Miss USA contestant talk about her allegedly regrettable experience working as a PR consultant with the Brunei government. She was contemplating filing a sexual harassment suit against the government officials for allegedly coaxing her to return the sexual advances of the dignitaries she was assigned to entertain. One of the panelists, a middle aged woman that looked to be in her fifties (her profile certainly suggested she’s been there, done that sort of thing 🙂 ) interjected with a jolting question  in a cynical manner “ What kind of work did you exactly expect with a $10,000 a week salary – a receptionist ?” oops 😳

When one thinks of the $250 billion reportedly wasted by Wall Street high flyers in 2007 on their personal acquisition rampage, one can’t help thinking of the ripple effect the almighty greenback might have on the adjunct economies which will be the outright beneficiaries of such a windfall. The entertainment industry which includes everything to satiate the personal whims and self-indulgences of the new yuppie rich is one that comes quick to my mind. The report says that the underground and recondite world of high end prostitution is flourishing. Charges as high as $25,000 for a weekend in escort fees is pretty common. This makes Eliot Spitzer’s $2,500 short time trysts with an escort pretty novice huh?  Call them cream of the crop – highly educated( most with post graduate degrees), sophisticated and beautiful – these women could easily rake in $500,000 a year on their illegal yet very lucrative trade.  Who would fork out that kind of money? The filthy rich of course, those who could waste a lot of dough and can pay their way for the ultimate Girlfriend Experience or the GFE. According to the report, “the definition varies but most agree that it involves some facsimile of real romance”.  Really. I guess there really is a difference between a MBenz 500 and a Bugatti eh?  Heck, a  punctured Bugatti tire can set you back some 22 grand, good enough to buy a spanking new Toyota Camry.  Who ever said that life is fair?

When there is oversupply of money, excesses are in abundance. Why aren’t these women arrested and prosecuted? Well, first of all, technically speaking escort services do not by definition suggest sex in exchange for money. You can certainly hire an escort to accompany you to your company Christmas dance party if you don’t have a partner much like what an officemate in a previous job did 😉 The sexual part isn’t implied but could be claimed without much ado as long as the rules of engagement are satisfied. As well, these high end prostitutes operate independently on the internet without the services of agencies. They also pay taxes accordingly making it difficult for the authorities to make a case of an organized crime stakeout. Netting the big fish not the fry is the name of the game these days.

Lastly, where’s our moralizing, holier than thou rhetoric play in this game? Nowhere has it seems. This kind of business will continue to thrive as long as there are players who are willing to play the game and takers who can fork out the money. Our criteria for judging morality is more often dictated by political correctness or political gain rather than adherence the Judeao-Christian traditions that founded the fabric of morality of our society. Money talks and takes care of every thing and high priced lawyers are always around to make an ass out of the law.

BOOTLEG DVD’S ARE GONE

web-ebmc-dvd-circleIt might be due to the recession but for about a month now, the bootleg DVD’s have vanished from the Asian malls where they thrived for many years in this city.  When I say bootleg DVD’s  I am referring to English DVD’s.  Chinese and Pinoy bootleg DVD’s are still being sold as usual hehe.  I guess the government here is protecting the North American film industry and are urging people to support the livelihood of the people engaged in the industry.  Fine with me really but for how long ? During the recession period? At least now I have the chance of watching the DVD’s I’ve amassed but didn’t get the chance to watch 🙂 Prices of original DVD’s have dropped as well. You can buy two year old original movies for 6 bucks now – still not quote as good as the 2 bucks for the bootleg version but hey, I’m all for what’s good to the health of the economy. Let’s get things straightened out and bring back those video rental stores that have been rendered bankrupt and virtually decimated by the bootleg invasion. Seriously.

  1. $10,000 a week ? I hope she was given a job description first. Very suspiscious salary IMHO 😦

  2. I watched the videos and it’s pretty gutsy for these girls to be doing this business. I’m sure they are paying someone to protect them.

I’m pretty sure those bootleg DVDs will be back 😉

  3. It’s true that when there’s an oversupply can lead to some very bad judgment. Overabundance of money leads to its misuse in a lot of cases.

It’s the reason why a lot of wealthy men have extramarital affairs or maintain mistresses.

  4. “You can buy two year old original movies for 6 bucks now – still not quote as good as the 2 bucks for the bootleg version…”

Wow, six dollars only?! That’s a good price.

I was already happy to have found DVDs for 15USD here in Switzerland (that’s already with the price cut). DVDs here usually cost around 28-32 USD apiece.

You must be a bit sad that your favorite bootleg DVDs at the Asian malls are gone — for now, at least. 🙂

    *****

A journalist-cousin once wrote an investigative story on undercover prostitutes working in Manila. Many pretty and intelligent colegialas were selling their bodies to moneyed DOMs so that they could finish their schooling. How sad.

I saw how prostitutes, in their rented “shop windows,” were thriving in the Red Light District in Amsterdam. One beautiful blonde girl, probably in her late teens or early twenties, had a long queu of sex-starved customers. My brother and I wondered how she managed to extend her services to all of them!

  5. Wow! that’s too good to be true. 🙂

  6. a lot of young starlets here in pinas have been to brunei to provide similar services to the royal family and perhaps their minions, too. when they came back, they’ve got loads of money, buying assets they couldn’t afford before given their showbiz earnings.

  7. I hope that you will still be able to afford the $25,000 escort fees after the Christmas holidays… ;-)… but there is good news… with the financial crisis the fees for an escort will certainly go down… 😉

  8. Oil rich men from the world over spent millions on worthless chicks when they party wildly in Las Vegas while their subjects are suffering back home. That pretty much sums up their collective sins, what do they care!

Bugatti might be a blonde bombshell but my brunette SL500 is equally powerful, hehe…a piece of ass really is just that – a piece of ass, daylight or in darkness.

Been curious where these muslims get their fake dvd’s
and other wares that they sell all over the Philippines!?

  9. This post reminds me of an old movie (forgot the title) starring Sigourney Weaver w/ a doctorate degree in foreign languages. Her main source of income is “escort service” and she’s popular among foreign dignitaries.

I’m not sexually promiscous but IMO prostitution should be legalized. As long as their clean, have their regular check-up, it’s fine with me. Hell, their just trying to earn a living and their not bothering anybody.

  10. Irrealis – suspicious salary ? hahaha.. That’s so hilarious 🙂

  11. Natez1 – true but I can also tell you it’s gutsy for those men to deal with these women more so revealing their VIP identities 😯

Bootleg DVD’s will surely be around but not openly sold in Oriental malls like they do here – methinks. I could be wrong 😉

  12. Panaderos – overabundance of money is dangerous. THe ultra rich don’t have the habit of begetting children with other women though. I guess they’re afraid of inheritance claims hehe 🙂

  13. Jayred – 6 bucks are a little older movies and if you really want to see the newer ones you will have to fork out more than 20 bucks. Good news paerhaps but I’ve seen orig high blue ray DVD’s costing 18 bucks floating around 🙂

In one of the interviews on the documentary, one of the girls who was doing some study/work in europe found that a lot o fmen liked to ask her out so she thought of making it a business 🙂 Somewhere along the way these high end players like the taste of power, of manipulating men with prestigious, powerful stature in life.

  14. Grace – Too good to be making $500,000 a year eh? Thanks for the visit 🙂

  15. Mari – I heard about that too, that you would see lots of pretty women lounging around the Brunei airport.. hmm.. naughty Sultan 🙂

  16. Sidney – hahaha… according to the documentary, I only meet the requirements age of over 35 years and being a non smoker – that’s it 😆

  17. Trublue – I like your comparison of the Bugatti as the blonde bombshell and the MB500 as the brunete hehe 🙂 As for that piece of ass, maybe we should ask Michael Douglas why he paid $57M in a divorce suit so he can marry Catherine Zeta Jones 😆

These fake DVD’s are mostly coming from China and that’s why it’s cheap. Have you even seen of its English subtitles? It’s so frigging hilarious 😯

  18. Blogusvox – I think that movie is a remake of an old one where a prestigious man’s wife moonlights as a high end prostitute at night and darn I can’t remember the name of the movie but I thought it starred Catherine Deneuve, one of the truly beautiful women who graced the silver screen.

They have legalized prostitution in some parts of Nevada and Rhode Island. Much like abortion, the country is too far apart, too divided on the issuse it seems.

  19. At that price, the women for sale should so ebautioful and pleasurable and I do not know if that’s a believable idea. I don’t know, maybe that’s proof that too much money rdeally ain’t good for the sould or morality, as Jesus Christ had once said, becoming the “root of … evil…”

  20. You’d be surprised at how many colegialas and career women from decent families moonlights as escorts here in Manila. It’s not because of lack of money, but rather, for having expensive tastes…

  21. Major Tom – the price is atrocious. Just imagine someone making 50 grand for just 2 weekends and a teacher may toil for that kind of money the whole year round 😦

I do believe that MONEY and not even LOVE OF MONEY is the root all evil. Or perhaps we should reword it – TOO MUCH MONEY is the root of all evil hehe 🙂

  22. Sngl – I would imagine that that kind of activity might be motivated by power tripping or social climbing… some people may just decide to sleep their way through attaining economic security 😯

  23. That’s what happens when multi-millionaire people get into the divorce process. They would rather settle at a compromised price to avoid the smell of sewer spewing out. Besides, 57mil isn’t a tall order for Mike D to pay, it’s a chump change, hehe…besides, his ex must look like a dump truck to him, so as the old saying goes – old cows eats young grass. And there goes also “till death do us part” and for Michael D, “till Zeta-Jones makes us part”, hehe……Cheers!

  24. TrueBlue – goes to show that people can part with almost everything they have for the sake of happiness 🙂

  25. these guys can splurge on young, attractive flesh. to that ex-PR who went to Brunei, well…one of the judges is right – what does she think? these men will throw money without anything in return? face reality. 🙂

the oldest profession will still be affected by this economic crunch but they won’t feel it as much as we do.

early this year one escort operator in one U.S. state was convicted. while investigating they found her ‘black book’ which contained names of her establishment’s clients – doctors, lawyers, etc. 🙂

  26. Ipanema – that ex-beauty contestant was actually on TV with some guest panelists after she “blew the whistle” on the Brunei job. In the job she also went on a trip to London on a private jet and got thousands of dollars for shopping pocket money. I don’t think the public was sympathetic to her cause. Unbelievable to think that she didn’t know what she was getting into 😦

The operators are big fish so they are the first to go. In fact they found an operator who ran a business comprised with ordinary women – soccer moms, working moms which is quite unbelievable.

The private players are so difficult to nail down. These are the high end players who make the most money.

  27. oh i will pray for your job….

the recession is affecting every country….

    so sad…

    hope it would end sooner…

  28. Piapot – thanks my dear. So far I’m still employed 🙂 At this point, things are beyond our control. If the economy improves, our chances become a bit better. We hope things become rosier once Mr. Obama starts stimulating the economy 😉

  29. Yes… definitely a bailout for expensive escort services…

  30. “Money talks and takes care of every thing and high priced lawyers are always around to make an ass out of the law.” – so true!!! 😉

  31. “Jayred – 6 bucks are a little older movies and if you really want to see the newer ones you will have to fork out more than 20 bucks…”

I know. Six Canadian dollars is still relatively cheap, IMO. I bought a DVD copy of the old film “Yentl” for 16USD here. The same price for “Grease,” “Miss Congeniality,” and “Tootsie.” I think you get the picture.

  32. Sidney – maybe Wall Street will initiate the bail out of escort services LOL 😆

  33. Lawstude – the habit of people here suing each other left and right had brought about the situation. Sadly, they only have themselves to blame 😯

  34. Jayred – older movies such as you mentioned would go as low as 4.99 at Walmart here. Prices have gone low these days.

One of the drawbacks of bootleg is sometimes they are not able to reproduce the original sound, esp those that have been downloaded from the net. I always like to go for those with Dolby 5.1 or the DTS 5.1 to get the surround effect on my system 🙂

  35. 4.99 Canadian dollars per DVD (old films) is a good price. It was a mistake for me to sell my newly bought “The Holiday” DVD for only 4.50USD during last summer’s flea market. 🙂

You know, I’ve yet to see bootleg DVDs here in CH (LOL).

  36. Jayred – I know. The Swiss always prefer materiales fuertes and are not known to settle for anything of lesser quality 😎

  37. so have you tried hiring an escort for a party?

re dvd, sa internet na lang ako nanonood. hehe ;p

  38. Tin – hehe… nope, lucky me, I didn’t need to do that stuff 😯
