Manny Pacquiao – No Fear, No Doubt, No Hesitation – in Showdown with Cotto

pacquiao_cottoThe Pacquiao-Cotto fight on Nov 14 isn’t about boxing supremacy nor a prelude to the most awaited showdown for the pound for pound crown with undefeated Floyd Mayweather Jr. This fight is about Pacquiao making history – a phenomenal 7th title in 7 different weight classes. A win will be the affirmation of Pacquiao’s almost superhuman prowess – 7 world titles from 106 to 147 lb. weight classes , a feat no human has ever achieved in the annals of the sport of boxing. I couldn’t care less if Pacquiao quits boxing if he wins this fight. Proving that he can conquer Mayweather is no more than icing on the cake, if not to trample and silence the loquacious and arrogant Mayweather who bad-mouthed Pacquiao with his malicious allegation of the Pacman using steroids to defeat his much larger and bigger opponents. Rumors in the Quiapo middle earth point to the Pacman’s exceptional strength to his possession of an extraordinary amulet from the indigenous carabao, the country’s national animal and symbol of raw and indestructible fighting power. πŸ˜† Or it might just be the samson-like effect of the balut or the boatload of rice and kilawin that turbocharges his biceps like what spinach does to Popeye’s. πŸ™‚ You’d make more sense to say that the Pacman is a freak of nature than someone who dopes himself to win fights.

Advantage Pacquiao

pacquiao_supermanThis post would be useless without a prediction so like what most odd makers say, I believe Pacquiao has the advantage to pull a win in this fight. I wouldn’t go to much details but my contention is based largely on the fact that just like de la Hoya and Hatton, Cotto switched to a new trainer for this fight. Switching trainers does not guarantee you’d find the magic formula to beat your opponent. de la Hoya gained nothing by employing Nacho Berestain, the famed trainer of Marquez, for his showdown with Pacquiao. Hatton learned it the hardest way. He dumped his former trainer to get the services of Floyd Mayweather Sr. for the Pacquiao fight, only to get knocked out senseless in the 2nd round. Hatton simply forgot that his old trainer took him to an impressive 45-1 record prior to his fight with Pacquiao. For some reason, Manny’s fighting style had been a nagging riddle even to the most astute trainers in the business. Hall of fame trainers Angelo Dundee, Emmanuel Steward and commentator/trainer Teddy Atlas always eat crow with their predictions on Pacquiao’s fights. They never get it right. The reason is they base their predictions solely on the tale of the tape forgetting that Pacquiao, aside from being an aberration, a freak of nature, has a team that makes him a progressively smarter and better fighter. Corners are the strategists and boxers the tacticians. No matter how superb a tactician Pacquiao is, he can’t win by himself. The evolution from good to great is a progressive fusion of confidence, strategy and tactics between the trainer, coaches and boxer. Disrupt that team chemistry and you would likely start over again. Cotto will be at a psychological disadvantage, precariously treading on new water with his new trainer in this fight. When Manny wins, team Pacquiao wins lest we forget.

The True Sign of Greatness

LOTR_PacmanWe all know that if Pacquiao wins this fight in whatever fashion, he will not be given full credit for the win. Pundits will claim that Cotto is a washed up fighter because of his devastating loss to Margarito, much like de la Hoya who was supposedly past his prime and Hatton, who they claim to be a shot fighter with a weak chin. Pundits will also say that Pacquiao’s legitimacy as a great fighter can only be affirmed if he beats the undefeated 39-0 Mayweather. People easily forget that the great Julio Cesar Chavez had a record of 87-0 at one point but continued to fight 25 more times and suffered 6 losses in the process. Had he quit boxing at 87-0, it would have made Mayweather’s 39-0 record look like chump change. Pacquiao and Chavez are great warriors because they consistently accepted challenges from the best of the opposition. Mayweather on the other hand reeks of cowardice, ducking legitimate challengers and picking on smaller fighters to preserve his record. He also pays his way into a fight, paying the $600,000 fine for showing 2 pounds overweight at the official weigh in for the Marquez fight. Worse, he did not want to be weighed at fight time. Not that it officially mattered but he clearly didn’t want people to know his net weight advantage for the fight.

No Fear, No Doubt, No Hesitation

300_pacmanIf Manny wins this fight, he will possess an enviable record of 7 wins in 7 weight classes – exemplary, rare and unparalleled in the history of the sport. Yes, he can fight Mayweather for the $20M if he wishes and make Bob Arum even richer but the outcome of such fight won’t change history. For now, the Cotto fight is what matters most. This will not be an easy fight because Cotto isn’t a pushover by any stretch of the imagination but knowing that Pacquiao is on a mission to etch his name in the history books, we will see him show up in this historic fight with explosive fists, lightning speed, stealth and ferocity of a tiger and the resolve of a samurai warrior – no fear, no doubt, no hesitation – as if this will be his last fight.

  1. great feature! this will be very very big if he wins! which i believe he will.

  2. last time I checked the odds, your 300 will win 100 if you bet on Pacquiao and 100 will win 180 if you bet on Cotto, Pacquiao is still the favorite. This is a great fight. btw first time I learned that Chavez was 87-0 at one point. wow. this puts Mayweather to shame.

    • Yep, Chavez is AWESOME. More awesome than Mayweather ANYTIME. But of the Pac wins the 7th title in 7 weight classes, he’s KING πŸ™‚

  3. I think Manny will win. Roach predicted that Cotto will go down in 9 rounds. I hope the prediction materializes. I think Manny stands to earn $13M for this fight. I wish him the best of luck. I hope that by this point, he has put aside all the distractions both within and outside of his camp.

How have you been, Pards? I apologize for the lengthy absence here. Life has been too busy and has gotten in the way of blogging. I hope you and the family have been well. Take care. πŸ™‚

    • Roach is a smart dude and he’s almost like a prophet when he makes predictions about the Pacman hehe πŸ™‚

Hey I’m swell – hope you’re doing well too bro. Take it easy πŸ˜‰

  4. Cotto is a dangerous opponent but Pacquiao is Bruce Lee πŸ˜‰ I give Cotto up to 5 rounds to quit . Pinoy Power rocks pare ko πŸ™‚

  5. go pacquiao!

    syemps,pacquiao tayo til the end.

    balato naman tito manny..hehe

  6. Pakyaw is like PBF, hard to hit. Just like UFC fights, one hard punch in the head ends the fight, so MP needs to win this fight so PBF and him will duke it out for boxing supremacy.

I’d like to think that Pakyaw doesn’t really understands fully that history is riding on this fight. His supporters does but his easy going demeanor says otherwise.

My prediction: Pakyaw will LOSE. Why? This is the first time I bet on the Pacman, that’s why. I’m his jinx.

    • True – at this weight, one punch can do it. Fact its, anyone of them can do it.

I heard the Pac say he wants to make history with this fight plus of course there is a $240 grand belt studded with diamonds awaiting the winner too , courtesy of the WBC president πŸ™‚

hahaha… you’re going to win this time bro πŸ™‚

  7. If Pacquaio is an american, those guys down there would immediately use superlative words to describe his greatness. They might even say he is on top of Ali.

Take the case of Mayweather winning over Marquez. Although the fight is a mismatch from the start, they all say Mayweather is the man after won. Later, they gave him the pound for pound no. one spot which they later changed. i guess they realized how foolish they are.

With regards to the tale of the tapes, there is actually no big difference between the fighters.

I go for Manny all the way.

if the betting odd is 3:1, i guess it is better to hedge… parang stock market ha ha ha

    • So true and the Pacman would have been making money like Tiger Woods on endorsements too 😎

It became a real mismatch when Mayweather purposely showed up 2 lbs bigger at the official weigh in. They should have made the penalty $1M per pound instead of $300G. Again, Marquez made more money with the penalty than his previous fight purses so he took it like bribe money πŸ˜‰

Cotto is still the bigger man come fight night and that what makes Angelo Dundee and Emmanuel Steward think he has the advantage over the Pacman.

I’m taking my six pack to my buddy’s house to watch the fight with the crew as usual. I think the wifey is staying home coz she can be very anti-climatic, like calling Pinas the moment Pacquiao wins, disrupting the excitement of the people watching the delayed telecast πŸ˜†

      • in my case, it’s the other way around. my wife calls just to know kung sino nanalo…

The not-so clear advantage is what’s making this fight interesting. and that i guess is the ppv come-on.

        • Dang, I can’t understand why they do a delayed telecast in Pinas. It’s unfair. I guess looking at the Tweets of boxing websites is much better, coz they have analysts at the ringside watching the fight πŸ˜‰

PPV is pricey too and it’s 10 bucks more expensive if it’s in HD duh. Good that my buddy works for a cable company and he gets to watch sports PPV events for peanuts. We bring drinks and food to his house every Pacquiao fight and spend hours on the post-fight analysis coz he records the fight on his PVR satellite receiver πŸ˜‰

  8. In a way, Manny and Freddie are the perfect — albeit, lethal — combination. If Pakman wins this one, Roach will go down in boxing history as one of the best trainers of his generation. If you ask me, they really owe each other big time.

And now for the bad news, should Manny win, he can easily parlay his victory to more movies and, yikes! even further his singing career. And that’s not including his political ambition… hay. πŸ˜€

    • Freddie is Manny’s boss and he listens to him all the time. That’s according to Buboy Fernandez, Manny’s long time Pinoy trainer. Michael Konz, is Manny’s manager only in press and financial affairs. Freddie is da man.

Hey, I heard Pacquiao has a concert in Vegas along with a Pinoy singer after the fight. Hope he doesn’t show up with bukols and bandages in his face hehe πŸ˜‰

  9. OK guys so Manny Pacquiao broke the world record with a historic 7 wins in 7 weight classes with a 12 round TKO over the best boxer in the welterweight division ! After the fight, he loosened up at a concert with a Pinoy singer where he was supposed to sing 13 songs for a $100,000 talent free. Now that more than takes care of the travel expenses for his family contingent who flew to Vegas to watch this historic fight. If he isn’t a freak of nature, I don’t know what else to say hehe πŸ˜†

Now, let’s talk about who those ate crow for their dumbness when it came to predictions πŸ˜‰ Their mouths are probably taped by now – boxers George Foreman, Tito Trinidad, Winky Wright and Ali trainer Angelo Dundee for predicting a Cotto win. Those who are laughing their ass off for predicting a Pacquiao win and made themselves look like they really know boxing – Mike Tyson, Bernard Hopkins and Hector Camacho πŸ˜‰

One boxing website writer who vowed not to write anymore if Pacquiao wins is probably looking for a new job right now. Last time I checked his column, comments were turned off hehe.. And of course congrats to those who won their bets like my friend TrueBlue πŸ˜‰

They said Cotto could handle speed because he beat fast guys like Zab Judah and Shane Mosely. They also said Cotto was the bigger, man more superior in strength. Well, it wasn’t even close hehe.. It was a lopsided domination by the Pacman . I was shocked. I bet Floyd Mayweather is scared now πŸ˜†

  10. before the game, mas gwapo si cotto. after the game, mas gwapo na si manny.

    • hehe.. it was a gradual reconfiguration of his pretty face πŸ˜‰

Same old post fight response from the opponent’s camp – he was stronger and faster than we expected. We heard that many times before, didn;t we? πŸ˜†

  11. …..”Hall of fame trainers Angelo Dundee, Emmanuel Steward and commentator/trainer Teddy Atlas always eat crow with their predictions on Pacquiao’s fights.”…..

Another “inihaw na uwak” for them! PacMan won and the pocketful of dollars I won on the pool at a fight party! I get to celebrate with “Inasal na manok with acharang papaya” and plenty more to spend for under privilaged kids (4) to take to Disneyland during the Thanksgiving holidays….Thank you Manny for winning the money for these kids trip of a lifetime to “the happiest place in the world!”

    • Inihaw na uwak for sure to those people who took the Pacman lightly. That inlcudes a boxing writer who vowed to stop writing if Pacman wins. Lo and behold he now says that Pacman’s win is tainted by the fact that Cotto showed up 2 lbs lighter and it took a great toll in his body so the fight wasn’t fair so he will continue writing 😦 what a lame cop out by the jerk 😑

woow.. nice bet. that’s awesome, to be able to take those unpreviliged kids to Disney πŸ™‚ well done pal 😎

On one hand, I find it hard to believe that Pacquiao’s historic win caused misery to some people. Reportedly in Pinas, 9 people died of heart attack watching the Pacman win and a policeman’s firearm accidentally discharged as he was jumping up and down in elation ( lucky no one got hit) ..arghh. 😯

  12. And Manny Pacquiao indeed won!
I wonder if he’ll be able to make it the next fight. Will Mayweather breaks it?
    Abangan…

    • Dong, Mayweather is a coward. He isn’t psychologically prepared to take a loss. He may quit boxing and just do wrestling, where everything is staged and fake πŸ™‚ He did a bit of wrestling lately and got some nice feedback from the wrestling fans. He will insist on some ridiculous share of the pot , more than 50% for the purpose of stalling the deal. Clearly, Pacquiao doesn’t deserve to get less than him coz the Pacman is the current and legit P4P king. One proposal is both get 40% and the winner gets the remaining 20%. Let’s see what happens. Roach openly challenged him. Roach also made a statement ” we know how to fight Mayweather”. I think Roach’s calling scared him hehe πŸ™‚

  13. Awesome fight. Wished it was over in the 6th or 7th round, hehe….

Odds were out today and the betting is on for a “to be determined” fight between the Pakyaw and PBF. The Pakyaw is favorite at -140 and the Gayweather is at +140. Bob Arum we’re sure has his hands full wheeling and dealing as we speak.

As always, the Gayweather and ever-greedy as he can be; declared a share of the fight purse to be 65/35 in his favor!!!!! Hoooooyyyy!!!! Floyd!! the oddsmaker made the Pakyaw the solid favorite. This idiot just don’t get it.

But really, if I was Manny; I will not fight this turd, ever! Pakyaw is the current draw, people pay to see him duke it out with anyone. He can make lots of dough by facing the likes of the winner of the Mosley/Berto fight or Edwin Valero; Juan Marquez is out of the question as my barbero intimated to me. Even Paul Malignanni is a possibility. MP has nothing to prove anymore with his seven titles in seven weight class. Floyd can wrestle with women bigger than him, hehe….

    • indeed a great fight, a classic for the books they say more so being a historic one.

I’m amazed at the odds of Manny being favorite over loud mouth Mayweather. I think FloydM’s his ego is hurt by this odds.. He always expects to be the highly favored all the time. Today I read he said he will gain nothing from fighting the Pacman because if he wins people will say he’s bigger anyways hahaha. What a frigging’ moronic reasoning πŸ™‚

Here’s what Freddie Roach said about Mayweather :

“I would love to see Manny knock this guy out and then retire,” he said. “There’s no place to go after that. We will break Mayweather down. He’s a fragile guy. I know he is hard to get to but we will get to him. Manny can match Mayweather’s speed and he has better footwork and more balls.”

Know what, when Freddie says something, people take it seriously. I think the Pacman will smother Floyd M. Methinks he will chicken out in this fight πŸ˜‰

  14. There is a Noypi boxer in a hospital in Las Vegas who is comatose named Z Gorres from Cebu. Up to this writing, haven’t heard of any word that the Pakyaw himself ever paid a visit to offer support or in this case, financial one. I feel for Mr Gorres cause even if he has insurance as a boxer and as a Filipino National, his insurance can encounter potholes along the way, meaning it may be capped. It wil certainly gets worse if his condition worsens and we all hope that’s not the case. Only upside of this bad situation is UMC hospital where he was admitted to is a public hospital.
But if he stays there for over a month, we all know the bills will skyrocket and my hope is the Pakyaw should have the presence of mind to lend a help if necessary.
What’s $300k if you were just paid over $20million in one night? But then again, Pakyaw is not TruBlue and I’m not him.

    • Heard about him. Also read that he is Manny’s protege. I have no doubt Manny will help in the expenses plus I believe there is insurance for these boxers too. Doon lang sa cut niya sa PPV, he could defray most of the expenses.

This coming Sat we have a banger here in Toronto. “Marvelous” Marvin Sonosona ( 14-0, 12 kO) is defending his Jr Bantamweight title against Mexican Alejandro Hernandez. (22-7-1, 11 KO) It will be shown on our local TV sports channel . This will be another nice fight πŸ˜‰ This 19 yr old slugger packs a punch like the Pacman πŸ™‚

  15. it’s in the malunggay of his tinolang manok πŸ˜›
we all now knew he won…don’t know but the pacquiao-mayweather fight is gonna be a boring one with floyd always running and dancing in the ring

    • Floyd mayweather Sr. mentioned the steroids charges again saying Pacquiao’s win over Cotto was almost impossible. He also said if he was his son, he wouldn’t fight Pacquiao who’s definitely “into something” with his extraordinary power. Of course the jerk was also in Hatton’s corner when he got flattened . He’s smarting from that embarrassing loss so now he’s hitting the Pac below the belt 😦

I don’t think Mayweather will fight the Pacman. He’s going to demand the lost ludicrous share to stall the fight 😦

  16. I’m no boxing fan, but I must say that Pacquiao is one great boxer indeed. Watched the summary of the match on GMANews.TV. I was impressed. At the same time, I felt bad for his opponent…blood all over his face! (The reason why I don’t like boxing in the first place.)

I heard Pacman has a good business acumen, and would even like to further his education. He’s a visionary as well.

    • Pacquiao is a showman. Despite his messy personal life prior to the fight with the brouhaha over actress Krista Ranillo ( his co-star in movie) and wife Jinky’s extreme jealousy, he still managed to get an impressive win over the best boxer in the division πŸ˜‰ I can’t believe the Pinoy media’s intrusion in Pacquiao’s life, exposing his every move, asking him questions that are extremely personal. 😦

The Pacman is very wealthy and has investments all over the place. He just had a huge endorsement with Nike. On the other side he is also very generous. I just hope his philanthropic actions are orchestrated by his financial advisors so he knows he is spending well within his limits.

      • Wow, BW. I can’t believe you’re very much up-to-date with Pinoy showbiz. I didn’t know about this chismis. Ok, ma-Google nga (LOL).

        • hahaha.. I get a dinner briefing with the wifey every night πŸ™‚

This is just too much. I only like to know about Pac the great boxer – not his personal innuendos, not even his political adventurism coz it’s totally another topic which is not much of interest to some people who are true fans of the sport duh 😯

  17. He showed once again that he is the best fighter!
And probably he is not bad in bed too… πŸ˜‰
